Geocache Description:

This cache is placed for Dave Hardy, who worked nearby, and passed away November 2017. Since 1999, Dave was Director of Trail Programs for the Green Mountain Club. During those years he supervised much important work on the Long Trail, including building two major footbridges, several trail relocations, as well as restoring shelters and privies.

Dave was not a geocacher. However, some who placed caches in Vermont's state or national forest land would be in contact with him. They would apply for permission to place a cache in the forest. Often the land manager would pass the application to Dave for review. He knew the areas and the trails intimately, and could easily determine whether the location was appropriate. There was a time or two that he would send the hider back to move the cache to a location which he thought was more suitable.

When you go on some of the local hikes in the area, be sure to admire the trail work; much is due to him and his hardworking trail crew at GMC. And the cache here is in a location which I think he'd approve.

The cache is a small orange plastic container in a winter friendly location. Please park at the posted coordinates on Cabin Lane. You may park along the road or use the lot at GMC. It is illegal and unsafe to park on VT 100.
