Geocache Description:

Many communities in New Hampshire no longer use the names under which they were originally chartered. Have you ever heard of Maynesborough, New Chester, or Ossipee Gore? To find this cache, you need to find the present names associated with some historic names.

The posted coordinates are not where the cache is, but rather a building where the required information may be obtained. On the second floor of this building is a hanging map giving town names of New Hampshire some 200 years ago. Since then, some new towns and counties have been created, and some names and boundaries changed - some corrected on the map, and some not. (The map date is too new to show Pennycook or Protectworth, and Adams wasn't granted yet.) Unfortunately this building is only open weekdays 8-4:30 so it's hard to see this fine map.

The final is near a building also containing many historic documents, but you will probably want to drive or bike there. Note that the name of the likely access street was changed by the legislature in 2018 so your map/GPS may still use the old name.

To find the final location, you need to find the present name associated with each historic name below and find the appropriate letter associated with the present name. Convert letters to numbers using a=1, b=2, d=3, e=4, f=5, h=6, i=7, m=8, n=9, o=0.
Example: Percy 3rd letter becomes St[a]rk which converts to 1
The final is located at (north) 43 xx.xxx (west) 71 xx.xxx using the numbers in order from below.

Dunstable 2nd letter
Wendell 4th letter
Hawke 5th letter
Poplin 4th letter
Fishersfield 2nd letter

Peeling 4th letter
Burton 3rd letter
Packersfield 1st letter
Durand 5th letter
Nottingham West 3rd letter
