Margaritas and Potato Salad

A Geocaching Tale by Thrill.Seeker

It was a cold, snowy day. A group of geocachers have come together for a geocaching event to beat the winter blues and to enjoy each other’s company.

“I hate this weather,” Thrill.Seeker grumbled. “Snow is fine occasionally, but not when it’s three feet high and even just driving to a cache is a hazard in itself.

“I love this weather!” gmarkusic exclaimed. “I could cache in this stuff all the time. Don’t you like a little challenge?”

“There’s a difference between challenge and hypothermia,” Thrill.Seeker mumbled.

“What are you whining about?” Carpenterluvakatcrew said. “You’ll never believe what I have to do to keep my daily streak alive.”

“I bet she had to climb a tree,” Bobbo12164 laughed.

“Hardy-har. If I did, I would’ve made you climb it and get the cache. I finally solved one of armgdn666’s puzzles.”

“You mean the one where you have to @)@#!%?” Thrill.Seeker piped up. That one took a lot of !((@$ and was a pain in the butt.”

The room fell dead quiet. Everyone was stunned.

“What?” Thrill.Seeker asked.

“You can’t say things like that!” Ms.CallaLily exclaimed. “Those words are taboo and you may get the geocaching police called on you!”

“Wait,” Thrill.Seeker replied. “You mean to tell me none of y’all ever said !$(!$% in a geocaching conversation? Or while hunting a cache? Or while helping another cacher out? You can’t be serious.

Another silence.

“Well there was this one cache…” gmarkusic said cutting the tension. “Ever hear of Aggravation? After 27ish hours spent on that puppy, I had to ^(@@% so many times while hunting it even a calculator couldn’t keep up.”

“You wouldn’t mind giving me a hint where that one might be?” Bobbo12164 grinned. Because that little monstrosity has me about ready to @)*!*%%.”

“Alright people,” CarpenterLuvaKatCrew cut in. “Can we switch gears? How’s everyone’s TB doing in SerenityNow’s TB race? Also I could really go for some margaritas and potato salad right about now.”

“Fantastic!” gmarkusic exclaimed. “I placed it in the monthly W.E.S.T. event right as rcives walked in the door and now it’s moving quite nicely.”

“So that’s how you avoided all those discoveries”, Tyroneshoelaces grumbled. “Does it have a lot of “visit” logs though?”

“Remember,” SerenityNow perked up. “Visit logs don’t count. Otherwise your TB’s will have ^!%@!!* and will have almost no %(&*@). Then you’ll be straight out of luck.”

“Ha! I don’t ever need luck” gmarkusic exclaimed. “It’s pure skill. Now Carpenterluvakatcrew on the other hand…she needs all the luck she can get!”

“Listen buster,” Carpenterluvakatcrew fired back. “I may not be on your level overall, but my nano game is so %(&*@) that you’d go ^!%@!!* trying to match me.”

“Alright people,” the Cleveland Caching Couple engaged. “I think all this wintry weather has made us a little stir crazy and we’re not ourselves. Let’s talk about something else. Anyone putting out a new cache?”

“I’ve got 10 more puzzles waiting to be published,” armgdn666 said with a grin.

“@^%!*!%” said everyone simultaneously.Heehee wrong again!

Not part of the puzzle: Author's note. This story is fictional (although some things mentioned may or may not have happened) and the people who appear in it are some of the many I call friends and are part of my massive geofamily. Even though the story pokes fun, it's not meant in anyway to insult any one of them, but instead meant to be a tribute to them and to what they've done for this game we all love. I couldn't include everyone for simplicity sake, but y'all still know who you are and you too are included in those I call friends. And as for the name of this cache, that came about on a geocaching excursion with gmarkusic and CarpenterLuvAKatCrew. Gmarkusic was telling us one of his famous geocaching stories about another geobuddy buying a boat load of potato salad. A little later, a song came on the radio called Tequilla Makes Her Clothes Fall Off and the lyrics mention margaritas. CarpenterLuvAKatCrew not long after that announced she could go for some Margaritas and Potato Salad. Hence the cache name. All the best and good luck to y'all!
