Geocache Description:

The first 2018 Groundspeak CITO week takes place from the 21st to the 29th April 2018.
As Groundspeak puts it, "Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!"
Anyone who logs an "Attended" at a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) event during this week earns an official 2018 virtual souvenir badge for their Geocaching.com profile.

Don't put your kayaks away in winter storage just yet!
Join us at this CITO event to clean a central part of Melbourne. With the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival concluding and the official punt stopping summer operations on the 15th April 2018, this is an ideal time for us to get in there and clean up this unique sculpture park. We're focusing on the island itself and the waterways around it, so you WILL need use of a kayak, canoe or other watercraft.

WHAT :
An island (and river) clean-up event.
For some socializing afterwards there are covered BBQ areas on the island.

WHERE :
Herring Island Sculpture Park, just 3km from the Melbourne CBD.
Herring Island is a little known art park. The eight acres of bushland are home to several pieces of public art installations with at least nine sculptures. The island, originally known as Como Island, was formed in 1928 as part of Yarra flood mitigation efforts. Despite being washed away by floods in the 1930s it eventually reformed with silt dredged from the river bed. The island is still one of Melbourne's best kept secrets.

WHEN :
Tuesday 24th April 2018, from 11h00 to 12h00.

WHO :
Everyone is welcome, including your muggle friends. You will need access to the island with your own watercraft.

HOW :
By rummaging around on the island, and with kayaks in the water.
This is a T5 event - remember your PFD. Please bring a trash bag. Gloves and a litter picking claw may also come in handy to reach litter in reeds.
