Ortiga é uma freguesia portuguesa do concelho de Mação, na província da Beira Baixa, região do Centro (Região das Beiras) e sub-região do Médio Tejo, com 15,95 km² de área e 590 habitantes (2011). A sua densidade populacional é 37 hab/km².
Foi habitada por uma comunidade judaica.
A localidade, junto do rio Tejo, tem uma paisagem que se alarga até longe, sobre os campos vizinhos ao rio.
Os antepassados históricos de Ortiga são em tudo semelhantes aos do resto do Concelho de Mação.
Freguesia desde 21 de Março de 1928, é uma área rica em espólio de épocas históricas como a Romana onde se destaca a estação arqueológica do Vale do Junco que se pensa tratar-se de um balneário romano. Ainda anterior a esta construção podemos encontrar uma anta em excelente estado de conservação que se situa na foz do Rio Frio.
No entanto, nem só de património histórico e artístico vive Ortiga, onde podemos desfrutar toda a beleza natural dos vastos pinhais e da albufeira da Barragem de Belver (Rio Tejo), onde durante todo o ano são praticados vários desportos náuticos e usufruir da soberba paisagem oferecida.
Historicamente a designação Ortiga poderá ter início com a passagem nesta região dos sarracenos que aqui se fixaram e aplicaram um topónimo derivado do grego (Ortygus). Veja-se que Ortigo na nossa língua é uma palavra de origem grega usada para traduzir a ideia de codorniz (ortigopia, jogo praticado na antiga Atenas, consistia em abater codornizes à mão). Assim terá nascido a designação de Ortiga devido a abundância de codornizes nestes campos. Do grego Ortygus por via árabe surge Ortigana “terra de codornizes” que por sua vez, com os primeiros povoadores cristãos, perde a sílaba final.

Ortiga is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Mação, in the Beira Baixa province, in the Center region (Beiras region) and in the Middle Tagus sub-region, with 15.95 km² of area and 590 inhabitants (2011). Its population density is 37 hab / km².
It was inhabited by a Jewish community.
The locality, next to the river Tagus, has a landscape that extends to far, on the fields next to the river.
The historical ancestors of Ortiga are in all similar to the rest of the Municipality of Mação.
Parish since March 21, 1928, is an area rich in historical times such as Romana, where the archeological station of the Junco Valley stands out, which is thought to be a Roman resort. Even before this construction we can find a tapir in excellent state of conservation that is located at the mouth of the Rio Frio.
However, not only of historical and artistic heritage does Ortiga live, where we can enjoy all the natural beauty of the vast pine forests and the dam of the Belver Dam (Tejo River), where during the whole year are practiced various water sports and enjoy the superb landscape offered.
Historically the name Nettle may begin with the passage in this region of the Saracens who settled here and applied a toponym derived from the Greek (Ortygus). It is seen that Ortigo in our language is a Greek word used to translate the idea of quail (ortigopia, game practiced in ancient Athens, was quail quail by hand). Thus will be born the designation of Nettle due to the abundance of quail in these fields. From the Greek Ortygus via the Arabic way Ortigana appears "land of quail" that in turn, with the first Christian settlers, loses the final syllable
