Geocache Description:

This stretch of the Merrimack River offers 14 miles of uninterrupted water. It's known for its beautiful scenery and undeveloped waterfront. It's home to many species of water fowl and wildlife, including beavers, ducks, great blue herons and bald eagles.

The majority of the observed water level data displayed on the AHPS web pages originates from the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) National Streamflow Information Program which maintains a national network of streamgages. In addition, real-time water level information is collected from other federal, state, and local streamgage networks.

Most U.S. Geological Survey streamgages measure stage and consist of a structure to house the instruments. Stage, sometimes called gage height, can be measured using a variety of methods. One common approach is with a stilling well in the river bank or attached to a bridge pier. Water from the river enters and leaves the stilling well through underwater pipes allowing the water surface in the stilling well to be at the same elevation as the water surface in the river. The stage is then measured inside the stilling well using a float or a pressure, optic, or acoustic sensor. The measured stage value is stored in an electronic data recorder on a regular interval, usually every 15 minutes.

Using the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) Nashua was able to make more informed decisions about risk based policies and actions to mitigate the dangers posed by floods and droughts. On March 20th,1936 the Merrimack River reached a record high of 41.30' feet! While the record low for the Merrimack River was only 2.00 feet deep on August 8th,1941! In the Map below you can see risk areas and what they have done to protect Nashua properties and their citizens. This levee was built leveraging the data recorded by the the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS).

The Hint is a spoiler, so don't use it, unless desperate.
Some Poison Ivy in the area, but it shouldn't an issue.
