A come Andromeda venne scritto da uno degli astrofisici più in voga del momento, Fred Hoyle, insieme ad uno dei migliori sceneggiatori che in quel momento aveva la BBC: John Elliot.  Hoyle era già famoso al pubblico letterario per aver ideato La Nuvola Nera uno dei capolavori della science-fiction.

Ma torniamo ad Andromeda. La storia nasce prima come sceneggiatura televisiva e poi, visto il grande successo che la BBC ottenne con le sette puntate trasmesse nel 1961 alla televisione britannica, venne riscritta in forma di romanzo. Della serie è andato perduto quasi tutto, se ne conserva solo una puntata intera ed alcuni spezzoni delle altre.

La serie italiana ebbe altrettanto successo e fu la prima fiction fantascientifica prodotta in Italia.  

Ma non molti sanno che al primo libro, fece seguito L’insidia di Andromeda, che inizia lì dove A come Andromeda termina. Nello sceneggiato italiano Andromeda pare scomparire in mare, ma nel libro non si ha la percezione della sua scomparsa ed infatti eccola riapparire nel seguito.

Quello che importa ora per trovare questa mistery è saltare allo sceneggiato della BBC e per trovare la giovane attrice bionda che interpreta la protagonista e che è ritratta anche nella copertina dell’edizione italiana del seguito. Questa attrice da qui in poi spiccherà il volo verso la fama e la notorietà grazie alla sua bravura ed alla conturbante bellezza.

Hoyle était célèbre pour le public littéraire pour avoir inventé Le Nuage Noir l'un des chefs-d'œuvre de la science-fiction,

Mais retournons a Andromede. L'histoire vient d'abord comme un script de télévision, puis, étant donné le grand succès que la BBC a obtenu par les sept épisodes diffusés à la télévision britannique en 1961, a été réécrites comme un roman. Presque tout a été perdu dans la série, seulement un épisode entier est conservé et quelques morceaux des autres.

La série italienne a connu le même succès et a été la première série de science-fiction produite en Italie.
