Welcome to the West Rand, Gauteng!
The West Rand geocaching community is very proud to present BLACK EAGLE GEOART, the only GeoArt series to date in South Africa depicting the rare Black Eagle!
Apart from its rich cultural history, the West Rand in Gauteng, South Africa is also home to an extremely active geocaching community. The West Rand geocachers are a social bunch and meet at least once every month to share stories, swap experiences and trackables and enjoy each other's company.

Black Eagle The Pirate
Story has it that many moons ago there was a notorious pirate by the name of Black Eagle who ruled the waters around Hawaii.
Black Eagle had magical powers and was known for using his eagle eye to cut holes deep into the earth. Mauna Kea a volcano on the island was created by his eagle eye and It is believed that he buried many a treasure in and around this area.
“The Geocache” his most sort after treasure was buried approximately 760km north of the main island of Hawaii. What made this treasure so sort after is that he created a tunnel with his eagle eye from one side of the Earth to the other approximately 12,742 km deep till there was no more earth left.
He placed the treasure in a secret spot which to this day has never been found. It is said that the FTF will be bestowed with the power of the black eagle which will help them find treasures using their eagle eye!!
