Quinta da Fonte da Moura, valued at 8 million euros and with more than 300 years of history, the mansion located at number 3072 of Avenida da Boavista is one of the oldest in Europe and about it turn some controversy.
When Miss Evelyn Teage died in 1957, at the age of 62 and without any descendants, it was known that she wanted to leave the palace where she lived, on Avenida da Boavista, in Porto, for the British State. Indeed, in the early 1960s the English Government undertook to fulfill the conditions laid down: the house would have to be permanently inhabited, serving not only residence to the consul but also with all its visible filling.
This was until December 2004, when the United Kingdom decided to deactivate the consulate in Porto. In effect, the heirs of Evelyn Teage decided to claim the mansion, arguing that the requirements expressed in the will are not being fulfilled.
In addition to the mansion, surrounded by a 1,7 hectare garden area, Evelyn Teage's family members also demand that part of their stuffing, which should have remained visible, especially the most valuable pieces, especially furniture style and silver, be restored in the mansion.
In this regard, Henry Shotton, Evelyn Teage's nephew-grandson and representative of his four sisters, tells us:
"These are pieces that have appeared in a book about the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Lisbon, they do not have to be there, they would have to be at Boavista's house, in the presence of everyone ... My great-aunt wanted your house to be residence of the highest representative of the British State in Porto and that it was always inhabited, always open to the British community, an express condition that is being opposed. "
By giving in to the house where she lived most of her life, Evelyn Teage, she complied the family tradition of being supportive and charitable to others. John Teage, his grandfather, had already been an example of this by donating a property, in the parish of Miragaia, and transforming it into the English Hospital, now extinct. The building, however, has resisted and still exists.
Currently it is stated that the mansion was sold to a private individual, and there was no confirmation of its acquisition.

A Quinta da Fonte da Moura, avaliada em 8 milhões de euros e com mais de 300 anos de história, o palacete localizado no número 3072 da Avenida da Boavista, é um dos mais antigos da Europa e sobre ele giram algumas controvérsias.
Quando miss Evelyn Teage morreu, em 1957, aos 62 anos e sem qualquer descendência, conheceu-se que era sua vontade deixar o palacete onde viveu, na Avenida da Boavista, no Porto, para o Estado britânico. Com efeito, no início dos anos 60, o Governo inglês comprometeu-se a cumprir as condições estipuladas: a casa teria de estar permanentemente habitada, servindo não só de residência ao cônsul, mas também com todo o seu recheio visível.
Assim foi até dezembro de 2004, altura em que o Reino Unido decidiu desativar o consulado no Porto. Com efeito, os herdeiros de Evelyn Teage decidiram reclamar o palacete, argumentando que não estão a ser cumpridos os requisitos expressos no testamento.
Para além do palacete, rodeado por uma área ajardinada que ocupa cerca de 1,7 hectares, os familiares de Evelyn Teage reclamam, também, que parte do seu recheio, que deveria ter permanecido visível, em especial as peças mais valiosas, sobretudo móveis de estilo e pratas, sejam repostas na mansão.
A este respeito, Henry Shotton, sobrinho-neto de Evelyn Teage e representante das suas quatro irmãs, diz-nos:
"São peças que surgiram num livro sobre a Embaixada do Reino Unido em Lisboa. Não têm de estar lá. Teriam de estar na casa da Boavista, à vista de todos (…). A minha tia-avó queria que a sua casa fosse a residência do mais alto representante do Estado britânico no Porto e que estivesse sempre habitada, sempre aberta à comunidade britânica. Foi uma condição expressa que está a ser contrariada".

Ao ceder a casa onde viveu grande parte da sua vida, Evelyn Teage, cumpriu a tradição familiar de ser solidária e caridosa com os outros. John Teage, seu avô, já tinha sido exemplo disso ao doar um imóvel, na freguesia de Miragaia, e ao transformá-lo no Hospital Inglês, já extinto. O prédio, porém, resistiu e ainda existe.
Atualmente consta que o palacete foi vendido a um particular, não havendo confirmação da sua aquisição.
