Frodo sets forth from Rivendell with eight companions: two Men, Aragorn and Boromir; Legolas; Gandalf; Gimli the Dwarf, the son of Glóin; and Frodo's three Hobbit companions-Samwise Gamgee,, Peregrin Took (Pippin for short), Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry).
