NOTE: This is a virtual geocache. There is no box to find
here, but you will discover a little-known art treasure here in
Syracuse, New York, and you will learn about an important event in
American history.
We hope you enjoy solving this puzzle as much as you enjoy the
experience of seeing this incredible piece of art. Depending upon
your knowledge of artists and history, you may have to do some
research to answer all the elements of the cache questions. Some
pieces of the puzzle are found at the cache location, and some
aren't. We set the difficulty rating for this cache at ''3'' to
reflect that fact. Think like Inspector Columbo working to solve a
case of missing artwork. The art and history lessons are free.
You'll be creating them for yourself as you solve the case!
FYI - Peter Falk, aka Lt. Columbo, earned his MPA at the Maxwell
School at Syracuse University in 1953. See his photo below, and
learn more about his life and career HERE.
Here are the rules to log this virtual geocache:
1. Use your GPS receiver to find the cache location. You may
want to bring a pen & paper to take notes, and a camera to take
pictures for reference later on.
2. Send me an email answering the questions below. Please wait
for my confirmation before submitting your log. Do not put your
answers in the log!
History Lesson: Who are the two men in the
center of the mural, what did they do for a living, and whose
writing is shown at this location?
Art Lesson: Who was the artist, what is the
title of the work, and what material was used to create
it?
3. After you receive a reply accepting your answer, you may
submit a log report claiming you found the cache. Logs submitted
without such a reply will be deleted. Please don't give away clues
in your log. Need help? Just ask. We really are depending on you to
solve the case, Lieutenant. Good luck!
