This cache is located partway up the Mount Pemigewasset Trail, which leads 1.8 miles to the summit of Mount Pemigewasset (2557 ft.), a popular destination for a moderate hike with excellent views at the top. To access the trail and cache, walk north about 150 yards on the paved bike path (Franconia Notch Recreation Trail) to a sign for the hiking trail on the left. The bike path is a busy snowmobile route in winter, at which time it is safest to walk along the edge of the groomed path. The cache is located about 0.4 mile up the trail from the parking area, shortly after passing under the southbound lanes of I-93. (If you hear a snowplow coming along over any of the three underpasses that the trail passes through, beware of falling snow and ice chunks cascading down from the road above.) At this point the trail begins climbing through a vast and beautiful northern hardwood forest, which extends most of the way up the side of the mountain. Snowshoes are usually recommended in winter.
