10th Anniversary! Cache is dedicated to crabbing, Blue Crabs season
open from 05/01/11 until 12/31/11. WEAR BOOTS AND JEANS!!! Don't be
a hero/fool, some bits of poison ivy and lots of brush along trail.
Path from parking area is pretty muddy, you WILL be walking through
reeds in a lowland woods area. Path is through an old cranberry
bog/sand pit area, you can see plenty of evidence of that. Nature
reclaimed the area pretty well, lots of wildlife around. No hunting
allowed. Trail was cleared by the town on 11/16/01, and it has
grown back (kinda). Good area to kayak or canoe, the stone culvert
under the road is a good ride. This is the northern end of Bass
River, if you're ambitious, you could go south for an amphibious
landing on "The Big 'W'". Cache is in a prototypical hiding spot,
no poison ivy, but bull briers, nature's barbed wire, if you don't
stop and think.
Cache contains:
- Basic log book setup
- Crab jigs (homemade) with current 2011 regulations
- Band-Aids if you get scratched w/ Neosporin packet
- Trades
- Etc...
Cache WAS ammo box, not far off trail, think like a deer.
Parking area is pretty obvious, a popular place for crabbing,
and a nice place to lounge about and check for ticks apre-cache. If
you want to do some crabbing, bring a chicken neck, put about 2
inches on jig, wait till crab attaches it's self then slowly pull
the sucker in. Chicken necks can be found at most meat counters,
especially small markets, for next to nothing, just ask. If you
want to keep the crabs, bring a net, bucket and a ruler to measure
said crabs. Please toss back all females. It's a good afternoon for
the kids even if you don't keep them (the crabs that is). If you
have no clue about Blue crabs, check this site out: http://www.blue-crab.info. It's
very informative and full of everything you wanted to know on the
subject and more, plus it's an ".info"...
Happy hunting (times 2) CCC
