This series is located in the Appalachian Mountain Club’s 1,200 acre Cardigan Mountain Reservation with permission. View NH Hiker 1 (GC 874WK) to get background information. You must solve the easy puzzle to obtain the final coords. All needed information can be obtained from the “Four-thousand footers” on WikipediA.
The Puzzle:
N 43 39.371 W 71 54.3X4
The USGS updated the topo maps in the late 70s and early 80s which resulted in elevation changes for a few mountains. One significant change was that Wildcat 'D' was found to be higher than WIldcat 'E' which resulted in dropping 'E' from the list and adding 'D'. Wildcat 'D' is number 3X on the NH 4K list.
All containers are winter-friendly soda bottle preforms and should be easy finds. Be aware that cell coverage in the valley is spotty at best.
All trails are marked although some blazes have faded. Cardigan trails are blazed in yellow on the east side (the side of this series) and white on the west side. The summit area of the east side of Cardigan is steep ledge and is very slippery in wet and icy conditions. Also, I STRONGLY advise not to hike to the summit via the upper section of the Holt Trail (above the caches placed in this series) as there is a steep ledge requiring a crack as a hand hold.
