Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is located on the Seely Memorial Trail. You will enjoy an
easy 1.25 mile(one way) hike meandering through Pisgah National
Forest and alongside the scenic Davidson River. You will be
rewarded with nature’s beauty and a touch of history.
There is a lot of summer tree cover, reading the hint or looking at
pictures provided is highly advised for success.
There is more than one way to arrive at the cache location. By
following the directions provided you will travel the most scenic
route.
Turn left off Hwy 276 at Davidson River Campground, and park in the
Art Loeb parking lot parking lot on the left. Parking coordinates
are N35 16.918 W082 43.281.
Walk back to Davidson River Campground road and turn left, cross
the river and immediately turn right onto the Exercise Trail.
Follow the trail west alongside the river and you will eventually
pass the English Chapel, a church established in 1860 and still
holding services today.
When you arrive at English Chapel Road, bear to the right, and at
the bridge, turn left onto the North Slope trail. Follow the trail
west to N35 17.196 W082 44.197. Turn left on the trail and follow
the road uphill to the Seely Memorial Trailhead at N35 17.110 W082
44.026, which will be visible from the road.
Follow the signs to the Historic Cemetery in the forest.
An added bonus is the Ranger Ted Seely Memorial which is less than
500 feet from the cache at N 35 17.105 W082 44.120
Note: There is a letterbox cache placed just a few feet from the
cemetary stones. This is NOT the geocache!!! The geocache is
approx. SIXTY FEET from the cemetary stones!
Please remember that animals have a much keener sense of smell than
we humans. Please do not place candy, food or any other scented
items such as soaps or candles in the cache, as animals often
mistake these items as food, and will destroy the cache container
trying to get to it. Also, please hide the cache container so it is
not visible, so that other geocachers may enjoy in the hunt. -
Thanks
