With the F is for Frog Multicache just down the Creek (recommended), I was looking for somewhere to place a cache also with a wildlife theme. Here there is almost a rainforest feel along Gardiners Creek. Gardiners Creek, named after John Gardiner who settled in the area in 1836 - more towards the Kooyong area, is also known as Kooyongkoot Creek (meaning 'resting place' or 'haunt of the wildfowl). This is where the QV cache rests.
Along Gardiners Creek, timber bridges that crossed the creek were constructed at Glenferrie Road in 1857, Toorak Road in 1860 and High Street in 1861. There was a toll gate at the High Street bridge. Some years later the poor condition of these bridges prompted lengthy negotiations between the Gardiner Road Board (later Malvern Shire Council) and the Road Boards of Hawthorn and Boroondara, revealing municipal rivalries that existed at the time. Eventually, the bridges were replaced. A new bridge was built at High Street in 1891, and at Toorak Road in 1915, the latter being washed away in the 1934 flood! - Information from the Victorian Heritage Database
The Cache - High Street Road is a busy road! Parking is recommended in Montague Avenue - From there it is a decent descent almost to creek level - terrain almost a *** - I recommend you head southwesterly towards the bridge then head north once GZ lines up as being North. There is a rough track here but be wary of rocks underfoot - ankle sprain material especially after dark. The muggles will be seen across the creek where the busy bike path/ walkway is - so be wary of being seen. The cache log is in a plastic tube with log and pencil hidden from view. No room for swappables. Please be gentle with the cache and replace it as found tucked away. FTF goes to n0w0rries in the rainforest at night.
