‘Hey you lot!’  said Julian, rushing up the stairs. ‘A new cache has been published. We must be jolly well off!’

‘But we can’t!’ said Ann. ‘We’ll miss our parents’ phone call!’

‘We have parents?’ said Dick. ‘Since when?’

‘Apparently’ said Julian. ‘Though admittedly I’ve never met them.’

‘Oh well, they’ll ring again next year, I suppose’ said Ann brightly. ‘Shall I make sandwiches?’

‘Oh come ON, Ann’ said Julian. ‘We have to go now if we want the FTF. And I don’t want to be looking at the smug faces of the Secret Seven if they beat us AGAIN!’

‘Not so fast!’ said Dick.

‘What?’ said Julian.

‘There’s a puzzle thing to solve first’ said Dick.

‘Well that shouldn’t take us too long’ said Julian breezily. ‘After all we’ve solved loads of mysteries. Remember the time on Kirrin Island when I singlehandedly…’

‘Oh not that again’ muttered George. ‘Yes we all remember it, Julian, because you jolly well never shut up about it!’

‘All right, let’s crack on!’ said Julian, hurriedly. ‘Although...crumbs! It does look rather difficult...Golly...hmmmm...’

‘Plenty time to make sandwiches, I think’ muttered Ann, reaching for the breadknife.

‘Woof!’ said Timmy the dog.
