Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2019 occurs on Thursday, October 31. It originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints; soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. (source: history.com)

Over time Halloween has evolved into what we know it as today. It is often poo-poo'd by Australians as a 'Yank' thing. This is mostly incorrect, although the act of trick-or-treating as we mostly know of today certainly evolved in Northern America, to the point where it is commercially the largest holiday in the USA after Christmas, with estimates of around $6 billion spent on Halloween parties & trick or treating by Americans annually.

I've been wanting to run a night event for a while, and this seemed like a rather appropriate opportunity to do so. Come down to the waterfront to welcome in the witching hour for Halloween 2019. The official end time is published as 23:45 because midnight is not an option in the event time, however rest assured we will see in the witching hour before calling it a night.
