Geocache Description:

WELCOME TO THE HARVARD FOREST!

It might not look like Harvard Square, but when you come to seek out this cache, you are visiting the site of a department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) of Harvard University.  Here, researchers and students explore topics ranging from conservation and environmental change to land-use history and the ways in which physical, biological and human systems interact to change our earth.

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, and there is no need to go there. Answer the question below correctly to see where the cache IS! Now on to the PUZZLE:

Pure maple syrup is made by concentrating the slightly sweet sap of the sugar maple tree through a process of heating and evaporation. A tool called a hydrometer is used to measure the sugar percentage in the unprocessed sap, and in the finished syrup. Most hydrometers use a common scale of degrees Brix (shown as °Bx). One °Bx equals 1% sugar content.

The correct density for finished maple syrup is between 66° and 68° Brix. Below 66° the syrup may ferment and above 68° it may crystallize. What °Bx would be typical for the unprocessed sap of a sugar maple (Acer saccharum)?

  • ONE
  • THIRTY
  • SIXTY SEVEN
  • ONE HUNDRED

Type the correct answer into the Certitude checker below to get the final coordinates.
