Cache
You are located at the foot of the Banská Štiavnica Calvary - a complex of twenty-two sacral buildings built in the late-Baroque style, located on the hill Scharffenberg (Sharp Hill). You can park your car at the coordinates, where is an official parking place for visitors.
From a geological point of view, Scharffenberg represents a lava neck (or volcanic plug) when magma hardened within a vent on a a younger, late Tertiary basalt volcano, which was one of the last active volcanic centers in the Štiavnické vrchy. In addition to the characteristic conical shape of the hill, it is also possible to observe natural outcrops of basalt lavas, especially in the upper parts of the hill.
Logging conditions
EarthCache does not have a physical logbook. In order to log a visit, you must answer the following questions and send me the answers through my profile e-mail, or through Message center.
You can log immediately after sending the answers, you don't have to wait for confirmation of their correctness. Follow this sequence please: 1) sending answers; 2) log.
- How does the slope change at Stage 1 and Stage 2? What is overall shape of the hill?
- What is the reason of this specific shape? Try to explain it by your own words. Use listing as a source.
- Is it possible to observe any cracks/fissures in basaltic rocks of the outcrop at Stage 2? Are they regular? Or parallel?
Photography itself is not a part of tasks, but I can request it as a proof of visit, as stated in Help Center.
- So, I kindly ask you a photo of you, your navigation device, your XWG... Just something that clearly identifies you on the site.
- Without received answers, the log is invalid and I will delete it without further notice.
- No group logging - everyone sends answers for himself.
And most of all - don't be afraid of the answers, just try ;-)
And read the listing, maybe it will help you.
