Geocache Description:

The west bank of the impoundment of the Pemigawasset River created by Franklin Falls Dam in Franklin, NH has many caches.  There are also many caches in the area near the dam itself and an area of trails for hiking and mountain biking.  This area is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers since the construction of the dam was completed in 1943.  But there are no caches on the east side of the river in an area directly across from the west bank where many have been placed.  This cache is an effort to balance this.

There are 3 gates in this area.  The first gate is at the end of Shaw Hill Rd. in Sanbornton, NH.  It is closed in winter and in times of high water.  There is a boat ramp at the end of the narrow, steep road beyond the first gate.  A little way beyond it is the second gate which is closed most of the time except for pheasant season when birds are released in the fields farther down the road.  The last gate is near the old Sanbornton bridge and is about 2.5 mi. from the first gate.  Snowmobiles use the road in winter so it can be an easy walk.  There is parking to the left of the first gate, at the boat ramp, and a small area near the second gate but don't block the road here.  Boaters often turn around.

This cache is located near the road about .87 mi. from the first gate.

Congratulations to AVMRod--FTF!   Glad you enjoyed finding it.
