TOOMBULLUP - CREEK CONVERGENCE
The Toombullup State Forest is in north-east Victoria on Taungurung Traditional Lands, approximately 36km from Benalla and 50km from Mansfield.
The area is rich in Ned Kelly History, only a short drive away is Stringybark Creek where in 1878 the Kelly Gang members became the most wanted outlaws in Australia after Police Constables Lonigan, Scanlan and Sergeant Kennedy were shot and killed. (See the area near GC1RH9Y for more on that side of the Toombullup)
This cache will challenge you to venture off track to an area of the park that is quiet and shaded with a pleasant creak cascading its way down towards Stoney Creek. There is a small waterfall to the side of the track (see reference point) where I started to follow the creek up. GZ will bring you to a convergence point which I found very peaceful and thought I would share it with others. This cache is intended to be completed as a creek walk and cachers are encouraged to search for it during wetter months or after rain.
Don't attempt this cache if you are not confident with off track navigation! There is no mobile phone reception at GZ nor down below in the valley, so be prepared in case of an emergency.
The cache is a 400ml cliptop container hidden in a crack in the rocks to the side of the convergence. Please return the cache in a way that helps protect it from the extremes in weather that the area endures, and so that hunters don't accidentally discover it.
HAPPY CACHING!
