Geocache Description:

We would like to introduce you to the hidden beauty of Sunset Lake. It had its beginnings as a summer "resort" of sorts. Some of the cabins were built when it was used as a place for revivals for the Dummerston Hill Grove Meeting Association during the summers. Most of the cabins date to this period (early 1900s) and they are still used by descendants of the original owners. Sunset Lake has an earthen dam and two spillways, the earlier one having been built in 1929. It is now a water supply for the town of Brattleboro, along with the Pleasant Valley Reservoir. Please enjoy the lake but remember there is no swimming and motorized boats are not allowed. It is a great place to canoe, kayak, picnic, or fish.

This cache was previously placed by us several years ago, but a lot of tree-cutting took place so we archived it. Now that the landscape is lunar-like, but stable, we've placed it in a newer location. It is an easy to find cache at a beautiful mountaintop lake. Park on Sunset Lake Rd. where there's a large log blocking the pathway to the lake, and walk in. The path leads to a nice clearing, which is perfect for a picnic. Or park near the dam and walk across it to the cleared area.
