Geocache Description:


This is the next in our collection of caches based on weird and wonderful words.  We hope you will not become too “discombobulated” from combing through all the “gobbledygook” and “gadzookery” to solve it.  Enjoy the occasional “backwap” while you “coddiwomple” your way to the cache.  We hope your caching appetite is hereby fully “suffonsiphied.”

Thanks to the review of this puzzle by 8ender (aka Beta Bob) I have upped the Difficulty rating from what I had originally intended.

Start your foray into the wordy swamps by opening this link: http://phrontistery.info/ihlstart.html.  There you’ll find “the international House of Logorrhea, a free online dictionary of weird and unusual words” compiled by the self-acknowledged obsessive, Stephen Chrisomalis. Thank you, Stephen.

Use the alphabet tabs to go to the following sections and find the weird word that matches the given paraphrased definition.  Determine the alpha sum* of each weird word B through Z (the digital root** of each alpha sum equals the number in brackets).

B – favourite, and apparently effective, Trump pastime (3)

F – August cachers hope the search leads to a place like this (7)

G – a Daddy Warbucks attribute (5)

K – like the guy who maybe hid a cache in Notre Dame (5)

O – cachers who shun geomobs and mega events may have this (5)

Q – cachers often groan when the hunt leads them here (1)

U – great spot for the GPSrs (6)

Z – common place for caches, but not always winter friendly (9)

The decimal minutes of the N and W coordinates are, in order, the alpha sums of: (U – O – 1), (G – B – 16), (Z – Q + 1), (K – U – 13), (B – F – 11), (Z - F -1), with the whole minutes being the same as the posted coordinates.

 

* The alpha sum is determined for a word by converting each letter to its place in the alphabet and summing these. 

** The digit root is then found by re-summing the alpha sum digits until you get a single digit (for example, the alpha sum of “dog” is 4 + 15 + 7 = 26 and its digit root is = 8).
