Geocache Description:

A nice hike along the lower portion of the Skyline to the Sea Trail.

Central Coast Geocachers of California (CCGC) logoPark on Hwy 1 at the entrance to Rancho Del Oso portion of Big Basin State Park. Additional parking is across the street at Waddell Beach State Park (fee parking). The RDO Nature Center is free, open on weekends from 12-4, and is not to be missed.

The cache is approximately 1 mile in from Hwy 1. The main trail gradually gains appx. 300 ft elevation, and at times you have to duck under or go over felled trees, cross muddy wet patches, or step carefully along narrow trails with extreme dropoffs. (Note from 2015 - no more felled trees to duck under or go over.) Be sure to keep an eye on the younger kids. Keep going along the main trail until you come to a hairpin bend and see an obvious smaller trail leading up the ridge. Use caution when following this ridge trail as there is a bit of scrambling (still keeping an eye on those kids?) but the reward at ground zero is an incredible view. Be sure to cover up the cache as well when you're finished. Thanks!

Below you will find a trail map with the approximate location of the cache, and a photo of the view you will see.

This cache is a nice finish if you're hiking down the Skyline to the Sea Trail (if you're not too pooped). If coming from Hwy 1, you can continue on up the main trail until it meets up with the fire road and take that back down for a nice looping hike.

Be sure to read the marker just inside the gate entrance to learn the history of the Spanish name of this cache site.

To your health!

The people photos below are from a disposible camera that was in the cache when it was first placed. If you know any of them, let me know and I'll add their name(s).
