Cedar glades and balds are things common to our Ozark Mountains. Paul & Ruth Henning (creator of the sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies) bought and ask to have protected by the State of Missouri all this land here on Dewey Bald & overlooking the Roark Valley. This State Park is inside the City of Branson, within it's city limits. The State Conservation Department maintains it.
Our Glade Cache is not in the glade proper but overlooks a glade and bald and has the best view east that doesn't have a lake in it. (Another better view with a lake is in a park in Branson city limits called Lakeside Wilderness Forest but I'll save that for another time.)
Off of West Hwy 76 and into the parking lot of the Henning State Park. A small overlook at the far end of the parking lot is the trail head. A 4/10 of a mile, easy walking, wood chip covered and maintained trail leads to the cache. The observation deck will catch your attention and know that you are close, take the natural ledge rock trail to the left of the main one, just past the observation deck. In an ammo box , Placed under a rock ledge with a rock to block the view of non-cache searching folks.
There are rock outcroppings all along our glades and balds. Sort of like logs in a forest.
For all you city folk or folk from back east or way out west, we have ticks & chiggers as well as snakes. Three poisonous varieties in several flavors and the rest just fancy looking. Some make noise and some don't. If you don't know what chiggers are, they are the midwest version of no-seeums. You'll start itching at about day two. We suggest always spray with insect repellent as a good safeguard and take your walking stick to poke around looking for the cache.
