from the center of indian lake village, take rt. 30 south toward speculator. in half a mile big brook rd forks off to the left. take it. you now have an 8 mi. drive, the last 2 of which is dirt and over private land followed by a 1 mi. climb which rises about 885 ft.
stop at the parking area where you stuff $2.00 in a lock box. as you look to a compass reading of 70 you will see not only chimney mtn but the chimney. there is a sign in book in a little booth to the right of the old barn. contents are an emergency blanket, magnifying glass, indian lake mini mug, jane and cathy's tuit, mini links, panic whistle, and a compass keyring. when you get to N43 41.493 W74 12.936 the trail branches off to the north and a bunch of caves for exploring, but for now keep going straight. i wanted this cache near the chimney, so there may be other hikers around. if so, use what stealth you can but go ahead and have fun.
when you get to the top, stand in the small sand pit next to the chimney on it's southeast side and face the chimney but for safety sake don't go up it. you are now probably within 25' of the cache.
update 4-29-05. thanks, cachers for the info. today a friend and i restocked and rehid the cache. it's now full of fun treasures again and back where it belongs. please help keep it that way with small trade items, and PLEASE when you put the cache back, make sure it is secure and will not slip out of it's hiding spot. (a rather slippery slope)
