Geocache Description:

This is the original "WITCH HUNT" by Butch Cachedy. The only thing it now has in common with the original is the "Castle". Feel free to hunt this one and log it again as a new hunt if you wish.

Container is a 5x7 Tupperware container.

School children who visit the “Witch’s Castle” on Lower Macleay Trail conjure up images of warlocks and night dwellers that come out once night falls...

Apparently "Witch's Castle" was maintained as a restroom and was closed due to heavy vandalism. The other item I found was that it was built in 1902 to house a watchman in the park to control the shooting of birds, loafing and other indescretions. In 1995 There was a motion to tear down the entire structure if there were more reports of illegal acitivities at the structure.

It also has a listing as one of Portland's haunted places. That information seems erroneous, though, because it says the structure was built in the 1600s.

Once a stone trading shack during the 1600's, this haunt is located at the crossroads of two trails. The trail leads to the coast of Oregon. At the site, it is said that there are "ghost wars." If one happens to be there during one of these rituals, it is almost impossible for them to get away.

At the above coordinates find the answer to this question.

In what year was Danford Balch hanged? This number will be represented by a.aaa

Plug that into the following equation to find your new coordinates:

Lat 45.29.838 + a.aaa =

Long 122.41.656 + a.aaa =

Following your new coordinates, you'll find yourself at a landmark structure where two trails meet. From the upper level of the structure, looking out over the trail, towards the creek, you will see a number on a tree. Convert that number to a decimal (adding any necessary zero's after the decimal point. Ex: 8 3/4 = 8.750. Use that number in the following equation to quide you to your final location.

N45 26.158 + x.x00

W122 38.249 + x.x00

You don't have to cross the creek!
You don't have to bushwhack, trailblaze or trample the foliage!

Good luck and thanks for hunting our cache(s).
