This is part of the Steeples Adventure Lab Series
In 1823 when North Adams had a population of about 2,000 the 1st meeting of Methodists occured in the home of Ebenezer Alden, a year later a wooden Methodist Church was built on a lot that was purchased for $30 on Center St.
In 1842 a lot was purchased at this location for $450 and another $4,000 dollars later another church was built and the old location was sold.
In 1872 that church was demolished and a new larger church was built with a seating capacity of 1,300
In Feb 1927 a fire completely destroyed the church and due to small insurance coverage only $35,000 was covered but another $151,000 was raised in donations and a new church was started later that year.
Things went well for 80 plus years until 2010 when the United Medhodist churches in North Adams and Williamstown merged and this building was sold to Artist and developer Eric Rudd. It is currently the home of Berkshire Art Museum
This wooden Church was demolished in 1873 to build a new bigger church
