Geocache Description:

Be sure to look at this incredible picture from 1911, at the official opening of the Queens Bay Wharf. The SS Kokanee is pulled up at the expansive new dock. Always check the source: this photo is from Thomas Scott-Lauder.

The posted coordinates will give you the turn off point for the Queens Bay Wharf road. Follow this gravel road down to the former site of the Queens Bay wharf. At the turn of the century, there was a great land sale in Great Britain for this area. Many British people came out to settle here and tried their hand at fruit ranching. The locals could load their harvest of apples directly onto the Moyie, Kokanee, or Nasookin sternwheelers, to be sold and shipped across Canada. From this wharf the people from the townsite could travel up to Lardeau and take a train to Trout Lake City, or down through Fraser Narrows into the West Arm of Kootenay Lake and all the way to Nelson.
