Short story: 15 years ago, I spotted this from the luxury view of the school bus. It took me a while to actually visit the site, and I always thought it was unique. What’s cool (53 degrees to be precise) about this location, is that it’s a natural historical feature, dating back 2+ centuries, and very few people know it exists. You’re going to find the spot for which the entire area was named! Sadly, it’s right off the highway, so ‘Cache In – Trash out!’.
The first part of the cache is simply a small plastic container holding the coordinates to the main cache. It is located in a nice park where hiking trails can take you 5+ miles. It is located approximately 1/3 of a mile from the main parking lot. The trails here are for the most part, fairly wide, but can get muddy. Some poison ivy and ticks in the area, but mostly off trail.
The second part of the cache is in an unusual location, and *best* if reached by car. While not far from part one, it is right off of the highway, and traffic can be VERY busy here as much construction and development is going on in the area. Park on the S-SE side of the highway and look for the stairs. Once you find that, the rest is a piece of cake. Cache is in a green ammo box. Original contents include log book, mouse pad, eyeball straw, golf tees, gliders, calendars, a 1998 StreetFinder CD, a stopwatch, flashlight and a button.
