Now a quiet neighborhood, on September 18, 1675, 84 colonists led by captain Thomas Lathrop, were attacked by two groups of Native Americans totaling about 700 men. Lathrop and most of the men were killed. This monument was erected in 1838 to commemorate this attack, known as the Battle of Bloody Brook, during King Phillip's War.
