Geocache Description:

This is my first hide and is dedicated to my favorite Grateful Dead tribute band Dark Hollow. The band is based in Syracuse, NY and when I was living in the upstate region attended many of their live shows and became friends with many of their members.   Many good times were had at their shows, especially in the barn at Critz Farms. They take their name from a Grateful Dead song of the same name.

Dark Hollow was performed about 30 times by the Grateful Dead. It was played in acoustic sets in 1970 and 1980 and in a couple of electric sets in 1971. The song was also performed by Old & In The Way in 1973.

The song is usually credited to Bill Browning on recordings. Some recording credits suggest the song is traditional. Browning recorded the song in early 1958 and subsequent recordings using the Dark Hollow title follow his arrangement of what is at least partly traditional material.

The cache is a camoed coffee container and not far off the trail.  Street parking is available by the trailhead on Briscoe Street.

FTF prize of a mini flashlight and batteries.
