Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates will bring you to the trailhead of the "TERRELL HOMESTEAD CONSERVATION AREA" but not to the cache.
This is not your typical hide and you may have to go "Out On A Limb" a little to get the coordinates for the final!

Back when we were younger my brother TalkingSticks and I would hike and hunt the hills nearby using only topo maps and a compass to navigate the way.
Now I'm not saying that we never got lost but with some careful planning ahead by reading the maps and using some basic orienteering skills. . . and studying the moss on the trees. . . and the position of the sun. . . and the contour of the land. . . and the direction the geese would fly. . . we would know exactly where we were lost!

Today we navigate mostly by satellites with multiple map sources, the ability to save locations and lay down tracks but it wasn't until I bought my first Garmin and my batteries died that I really could say. . .

"Where The Heck Are We"

I still carry a compass in my pack and a backup battery source for my phone which is also my camera, topo map, field guide, time piece, calendar, web browser, GPSR and more but one of my most valuable navigational tools is being able to revisit old logs.
I keep a query of my finds on me and often will revisit a favorite place that a cache has brought me to, it may even be archived but the coord info, logs and location are still there! I've even included DNF's and other logs in a list I call "Been There" which has come in handy at times when walking in woods and a deja vu feeling comes along, a quick search would reveal that. Yes. . . I have been here before!
