Russell Sawmill Pond Walk
Once upon a time the Plymouth Cordage Company was the largest employer in Plymouth. Their "footprint", though slowly being erradicated by new condo development, can still be seen, from the towering smokestack near the waterfront ( Alas, It's Gone Now), to Cordage Park, the large retail and office buildings to the west, and further south across Rt 3A where the Russell and Sawmill Ponds they created remain and have become a town recreation area with a nice hiking trail loop to be explored.
This is a multi stage field puzzle cache: about a mile and a half walk over a variety of terrain. The listed coordinates are Starter Coords (Do not go there. There is nothing there to find). To locate the cache, you must find two virtual stages and ADD the numbers you find there to the Starter Coords to create the coordinates for the FINAL. Add the first set of numbers to the North and the second set to the West then head for the cache. Review the cache page and gallery which contain information and hints on how to solve the cache.
If you are willing to leave the parking lot and walk a mile and a half or so to seek out the cache, head south and turn right skirting Russell Pond along the narrow path squeezed between the hillside and the pond. Follow the path south past past a pond and marsh, then up and down hills to the two virtual stages where you will gather numbers to construct the coords to the final, before heading into the woods for the return trip along a broader old woods road through a mostly white pine forest and uphill to the final. Check out the view and watch your footing. Cache is a tethered preform with two small "waterproof" logs inside. Sign one and replace as found. Resecure the tether as needed. BYOP Your car is a short walk downhill with views of Sawmill Pond along the way. You pass Hedges Pond as you leave. Wave at the Swans.
