Airplane! or Flying High is a juvenile parody film using surreal humour, slapstick comedy with verbal puns and gags. It was considered one of the best movies of 1980 and was voted in 2007 in the UK as the 2nd greatest comedy of all time, behind Monty Python's Life of Brian. Spoiler Alert below!
The movie follows the story of ex-fighter pilot Ted Striker who just dumped by his girlfriend, Elaine Dickinson, a flight attendant. He boards a flight she is working on and tries to win her back. During the flight, the crew and several passengers become ill. Using the autopilot the plane is able to continue it's flight to Chicago but will need someone to land the plane. With the weather detoirating Striker is the only chance the passengers and crew have of landing safely.
Airplane! was the title released in the US and most of the English speaking world but was changed for Australia and New Zealand audiances as it was possilby to be confused with an unrelated movie called Airport '79.
