In the fall of 2011 a group of local cachers believed that the Berkshires would be the perfect place to have a MEGA event!!! And they were right!!!
Trying to find the perfect venue we thought of Bousquet Mountain, a family friendly local ski area that was open year round for all kinds of family fun!!! In the winter they offered skiing and tubing and in the summer they offered a splash pool, waterslides, adventure park and miniature golf. And on July 7, 2012 Bousquet Mountain became the first home of the Berkshire Geobash!!! On that date 665 geocachers from around the world came together to make history, not only in the Berkshires and Massachusetts, but for all of New England!!! And these events occured annually at Bousquet through July 2017. We were New England's First, and only continuous, MEGA geocaching event for 7 years!!!
In 2017 it was decided that we would host the 7th, and final Berkshire Geobash on July 21, 2018. Things change and Bousquet Mountain wasn't an option for us that year, so we moved this event to the 4-H Fairgrounds in Pittsfield (about 2 miles - as the crow flies - from Bousquet).
In 2019 Bousquet Mountain was purchased by another group who did some awesome (and necessary) renovations to the property for skiers and tubers. However, the waterslides, splash pool, mini-golf and adventure park are also a piece of the mountain's history. The lodge was torn down and in its place is a modern facility which includes the ski rentals, locker rooms, and a full restaurant and lounge where you can sit to relax and watch the skiers on the mountain.
This venue may not look the same anymore, but the amazing memories of the Berkshire Geobash will forever keep the site alive for the thousands of geocachers who came to enjoy geocaching in the Berkshires for 7 years!!!
