Geocache Description:

On August 10th, 1959 a B-52 Bomber piloted by Captain George Kusch took flight from Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee Massachusetts and was on its way to the Canadian Air Force Base in Goose Bay, Labrador. The giant plane with a wingspan of 185 feet suffered a mechanical defect making it impossible to control.  Kusch ordered the other 7 crew members to eject but remained in the aircraft risking his life to steer the aircraft away from a populated area. He ejected at the last possible moment.  Given the fact that the plane changed dramatically from North to East it is believed he was intending to aim for the Ocean to avoid civilian casualties. He didn't quite make it there but not a bad option to come crashing down in Fremonts unpopulated Spruce Swamp. This cache is to honor Kusch for his bravery. My oldest daughter and I visited this site and she was very intrigued with what happened here since she has been with the Air Force for the past 9 years and she is stationed in Westover as well. The container is a ammo can hidden near some of the wreckage from the crash.  If you wander around you might see more. Some hanging up in the trees. Pretty amazing to see. Feel free to post alternate coordinates if you feel mine are off but it should be a easy find.
