Cartoline dal passato – La vasca di decantazione
Sono luoghi che nel passato avevano una destinazione o una connotazione completamente diversa dall’attuale. Altri sono ancora quelli ma con una lunga storia che vale la pena ripercorrere o ricordare. Ecco potrete trovarvi in un luogo bellissimo, oppure sul ciglio di una strada o forse anche … ai confini della realtà.
Eccoci al bordo di una strada di grande scorrimento; niente di bello o particolare. O meglio qualcosa di particolare c’era una volta. Quell’ovale che vedete ora pista per gli skateboard era una volta nientemeno ché la vasca di decantazione dell’acqua che riforniva la piscina del Lido di Verona. Già perché all’epoca era utilizzata per riempire la vasca della piscina “più grande d’Europa” l’acqua dell’Adige prelevata con apposite tubazioni dal Canale Camuzzoni. Perché nonostante non ci ricevesse ancora scarichi delle industrie l’acqua del fiume non era certamente limpida e quindi prima di farla confluire nella piscina veniva fatta riposare in questa vasca affinché decantasse e lasciasse sul fondo i residui il che, comunque non la rendeva azzurro cristallino come si può leggere in un resoconto di una gara degli anni 50:
“A quell’epoca le vasche da 50 metri in Italia erano davvero poche, e la piscina di Verona fu spesso sede di manifestazioni interregionali e nazionali di nuoto e tuffi, anche se l’acqua era verde scuro (proveniva dal fiume Adige ed era immessa in piscina dopo una sosta in una vasca di decantazione) e le corsie di corda, sostenute da rari sugheri”
Ora non c’è più nulla ma provate a chiudere gli occhi e ad immaginarvi questa opera di ingegneria …..

Here we are at the edge of a busy road; nothing fancy or special. Or rather something there was once upon a time. The oval you see now is a skateboard rink but once was the settling tank for the water that supplied the swimming pool at Lido di Verona. Because at the time the water of the Adige taken with special pipes from the Canale Camuzzoni was used to fill "the largest pool in Europe". Because although it did not yet receive industrial discharges, the river water was certainly not clear and therefore, before making it flow into the pool, it was left to rest in this tank so that it decanted and left the residues on the bottom which, in any case, did not make it crystalline blue like can be read in an account of a race from the 1950s:
“At that time there were very few 50-metre pools in Italy, and the Verona pool was often the site of interregional and national swimming and diving events, even if the water was dark green (it came from the Adige river and was in the pool after a break in a decantation tank) and the rope lanes, supported by rare corks”
Now there is nothing left but try to close your eyes and imagine this engineering work .....
