Pratt Mountain, New Ipswich
This cache can be accessed from the Wapack trailhead on RT 119 west
in Ashburnham, MA. (there is a brown sign for the Midstate Trail on
the right approximately 1 mile after the jct. with Rte.
101).Parking is available at N42°41.811 W 071°54.265There are signs
at the trailhead with mileage etc. Follow the trail/road marked by
yellow triangles until it splits (Wapack trail to the right, State
Line straight) continue straight along the State Line Trail marked
by blue triangles. Don't go right to the summit of Mt. Watatic
(this cuts distance off the Wapack trail since you don't do the
Mt.Watatic loop).Follow the State Line Trail until it intersects
with the Wapack trail again, take the Wapack trail to NH (left
turn) this is an old logging road that is washed out on several
inclines. You will come out onto a class five dirt road (Binney
Hill Road), the trail turns left and follows Binney Hill Road for
about ¼ mile and then breaks off to the right. There will be a home
with old equipment, cars, etc next to the trail. The trail will
then bring you to Binney Forrest, the fresh water springs are at
the base of Binney Mountain, follow the trail and climb up the
south side of Pratt Mountain to the Pratt Mountain overlook sign
and walk down the overlook path for a SPECTACULAR view to the east.
The cache is located about 25 feet to the right of the overlook
rocks. Walking time is about 1.5 hours from the parking lot.It can
also be accessed off Binney Hill Road from either the New Ipswich,
NH end or RT. 119 in Rindge. Parking will be limited and the road
in impassable due to rocks and mud after about a mile in from
either end.
