Beyond Mt. Flagg, Tuftonboro, New Hampshire
Take Canaan Valley Rd off of Rte 171 in Tuftonbro NH to Camp Merrowvista. Road becomes dirt about 1.4 miles from 171 Bear Right at curve after several farms. Park in Merrowvista parking lot. Proceed to Mt. Flagg trailhead N 43 43.701, W 71 14.312 by passing Merrowvista office (white building on your right)and passing several camp buildings as you follow the main road. Trailhead has sign for Mt. Flagg.
Plan on a 5 mile roundtrip hike with rough footing and many boulders. Cross two bridges proceed up a short hill and turn left onto woods road which you will follow for some time. Pass a lean-to on your right at about 1 mile Mt. Flagg is at N 43 44.569 W 71 74.967, and is approx. 2 miles from your starting point. At top of Mt. Flagg (open summit with niice views) follow blazes to "Mt. Shaw" This is the old "Gorilla Trail." in pre 1980 AMC White Mt. Guidebooks for you afficienados A short distance beyond Mt. Flagg you'll come to a little peak with a nice view off a side path to the right of Ossipee Lake and towards the Northeast. Yellow blazes are on rocks and trees with occassional diamond shaped markers. Cache is in tupperware container with blue top in rock cave after boulder climb approx. .47 miles beyond Mt. Flagg.
Cache contains Al Demiola CD, Tape, necklace, gecko tie tack, necklace and other stuff.
For you hardy cachers you can continue along the gorilla trail being careful to follow the blazes to the turnaround at Mt. Shaw. From there it's an easy walk down to the Two Peaks cache site. But be forewarned it's a long 2 miles from Mt Flagg :)
