Geocache Description:

The Plaque and Boulder

This cache is located at a boulder and plaque marking the former location of the long gone Stevenstown Fort.

In 1745, in preparation for what would become Stevenstown Fort, a young settler named Philip Call began clearing some land near a bend in the Merrimack River in what was then Salisbury, marking the northern frontier of the British colonies during the French and Indian Wars.

In 1783, after his return from the Revolutionary War, Ebenezer Webster, the father of 1-year-old Daniel, purchased 110 acres of that prime farmland and the rest, as they say, is history.

Ebenezer and his wife Abigail, both parents of Daniel Webster, are buried in the nearby Webster Place Cemetery.

Please park near the cemetery and take a short walk to the cache location. Vehicles are not allowed beyond the cemetery or off the dirt road. Also, the road can be quite muddy in the spring mud season as it is not a maintained road.

FTF prizes to choose from.

FTF went to NHBucket.
