There is no cache hidden at these coordinates--but this is a good place to park for your search.
The cache is located in the remains of a Colonial Era fort adjacent to Salem Willows. Fort Lee is an earthworks fort that was active during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and later re-garrisoned for the Civil War. It is one of very few earthwork forts from the Revolution to survive relatively intact, though today it is obscured by vegetation. You would never even know it was there until you climb up to it.
According to a plaque you may find on the way in, the site was landscaped for the Bicentennial in 1976. The overgrowth was cut back and views of Beverly and Salem Harbors were restored, but Mother Nature has since reclaimed it and there isn't much of a view from the fort. Since then the mountain bikers have taken advatage of the steep grades of the fort's walls to create an amusment park in the woods. So beware of airborne bicycles, or bring your own.
In order to find the cache, you must first find the 5 stages of the An Excursion to Salem Willows Adventure Lab. Each stage of the Lab will give you a number to plug into these coordinates:
42 3F.ORT
70 52.L32
When looking for the cache, you will be in the woods and doing a bit of climbing, but no bushwhacking. You should be able to do it relatively comfortably in shorts and flip-flops, if it is that time of year. Just beware of the airbourne bicycles.
PLEASE re-hide out of sight, as it is very close to the trail!
Congratulations to Geo-Knot for FTF, and Honorable Mention to our Beta-Tester, MathAdams.
