Geocache Description:

Scituate Beach Series

Scituate is a coastal town with numerous beautiful beaches. Locals often get the question, "Which is the best beach to visit?" This series of caches is located at each of Scituate's beaches.

Humarock Beach is a beautiful, 4-mile long stretch of sand and rocks located on a narrow peninsula.  One one side is the Atlantic Ocean, and on the other side is the South River.

This makes it a wonderful place for long walks, beach games, or simply relaxing and enjoying the scenery.

Today, Humarock is only accessible via the nearby town of Marshfield, even though it's still officially part of Scituate. It became separated from the rest of Scituate due to a powerful storm in 1898 known as the Portland Gale.

Prior to the storm, the South River used to flow into the North River, and the area now known as Humarock was connected to the rest of Scituate. However, the storm caused the South River to carve a new path directly into the ocean, severing Humarock from the rest of Scituate.

Enjoy!
