Geocache Description:

14 March 2024, 14:00 - 15:30

"Pi Day is a celebration of the mathematical constant, pi, or 3.14159265359.... As you can see, the date is literally the first three digits, when you write March 14 in a numerical format like 3/14. That's right, Pi Day is about math, but thankfully, someone made it fun with pies." (Thrillist)

On March 14th, 1988, the earliest known official or large-scale celebration of Pi Day was organized by Larry Shaw at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where Shaw worked as a physicist. The staff there marched around one of its circular spaces, then consumed fruit pies. On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (111H. Res. 224), recognizing March 14, 2009, as National Pi Day.

How should geocachers celebrate the day (and also Albert Einstein's birthday)? By eating pie, of course! Come to the Ever So Humble Pie Company and enjoy a sample of one of their fruit pies. The store is very small but it has an attached room that we can use. To log the event you do not have to purchase anything, we will do that for you! When you log your "will attend", please let us know how many will be in your group. The pies at the store are sold frozen, but the store owner has agreed to bake a specific number ahead of time for us. If you tell us that you will be attending by March 12th, we will make sure that we purchase a slice of pie for you. After that date, please feel free to attend the event, but we won't be able to offer you a slice of pie.

WHEN:    Thursday, 3.14 at 1:59:26 PM to 3:30PM

WHERE:  Ever So Humble Pie Company

WHO:     Geocachers who are available in the afternoon on a weekday

Some Pi humor:

Q: Why should you never talk to pi?

A. Because s/he'll just go on forever!

Q. What did pi say to its partner?

A. Stop being so irrational!

Q. Why shouldn't you eat too much pie?

A. You'll end up with a big circumference!
