This military post was home to the 6th Cavalry from 1919 to 1942. Horses frequently trained on the parade grounds inside Barnhardt Circle and among the challenges they faced were hurdles or 'jumps'. This concrete planter with a hedge in it was considered the most challenging of the hurdles on the equestrian course.
We recommend parking by the Welcome Center, just past the main gate entrance to the Post, and take a few minutes to learn more about this unique 'ready-made city' by seeing the exhibits and diorama inside. (Open Wed-Sat 12-5).
You are looking for an ammo box, in the 'hedge'. Please keep the gate closed. Daylight only find per city request, placed with permission of the City of Ft. Oglethorpe Parks and Recreation.
