The 2002 baseball season was a good one for Bay Area baseball fans. The San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s both had very good years. The Giants made it all the way to the World Series and the A’s won the AL West Division title. Barry Zito won the AL Cy Young award, Barry Bonds was the NL batting champ and MVP, Miguel Tejada won the AL MVP, Eric Chavez won his second AL Golden Glove. And the list goes on – Jeff Kent, Robb Nen, and Benito Santiago had fine seasons for the Giants – Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson, and Billy Koch were other A’s stars. A memorable year! This geocache celebrates the success of both teams.
The cache is a normal size ammo box that contains lots of A’s and Giants trinkets. Bring your own A’s or Giants souvenirs to trade, or other baseball-related items. Or anything else is fine, too.
The cache is located near the Fremont Older Open Space preserve. There are many ways to get to the cache location. It’s probably a 10-minute hike using the shortest route. Except for one very steep hill, it’s a pretty easy hike. However, that hill may make the hike difficult when it is wet or muddy. (Without that hill, the terrain rating would be 1.5.)
But note that the cache is very well hidden. However, you could also say that it is in plain sight! You don’t need any special tools.
