Quarry Hill (Dunedin, Otago) Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Nemesis: With six finds in over three and a half years, this wasn't the most popular cache (mainly becuase of its difficulty).[;)] I thought it was very well hidden, but it has been taken by muggles sometime in the past month or so.[:(] I searched for the cache for well over an hour yesterday, with only minor blood loss.[;)] I'm sorry that KiwiChris didn't get a chance to find it after such an heroic search effort.[:(] I have included the coordinates of the final (and only) stage of the cache with this log, so that others know that the area is fair game for placing new caches. It's an interesting area to visit, as it is beside the quarry on/near signal hill. Cheers, Donovan.[:D]

Directions:

Note: You will need to visit both my Botanical Gardens and Unity Park stashes for clues on how to find this one, the coordinates above are close to those of my Botanical Gardens stash only (they are not the coordinates of this stash).

The stash (Accuracy 10 m Elevation 199 m) is hidden in a 4.5 litre rectangular translucent plastic snap lock container within dense scrub, around 1 km south-west of the Centennial Memorial (S 45°51.527' E 170°32.805' Elevation 320 m), visit my Centennial Memorial (Dunedin) stash for photos of the great view of the peninsula and city. There are three main routes to the general vicinity of the stash:

1. Follow Signal Hill Road to the top from either Opoho Road or Lovelock Avenue to the Centennial Memorial car park (S 45°51.518' E 170°32.821' Elevation 321 m). Now, head down the forestry tracks for about 1 km (a 120 m climb back up).

2. In Ravensbourne, follow Adderley Terrace and then Junction Road to Rimu Street, drive to the end and park near the locked gate (S 45°51.731' E 170°32.860' Elevation 130 m). Now, head up the often muddy track for about 1 km (a 70 m climb).

3. Go to Logan Park High School via either Dundas Street or Butts Road, park in their car park (S 45°51.698' E 170°31.689' Elevation 15 m). Walk through the school grounds to the sports fields at the back, there you will find the start of the often muddy track up the hill (S 45°51.671' E 170°31.925' Elevation 28 m), follow it for about 1 km (a climb of 180 m)
