Geocache Description:

The Old Cane Highway is a popular path with local runners and bicyclists. It runs from Kapaa all the way to Anahola, hugging the coast. The road runs past isolated beaches and tropical glades. It is one of our favorite places on Kauai. Most of the Old Cane Highway is now a paved bicycle path as of 2007.

The cache is a clear tupperware container located near a small cove we call Turtle Beach. Turtles may lay their eggs in the sand, so watch your step. Look about for all the Kauaiian bird life. When we hid the cache, a rare and endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal lay on the beach, molting. This is a special place, we hope you enjoy it.

We know of three trail heads that lead to the Old Cane Highway. The first is at Kealia Beach. Look for the big white rock with the words "mana oka'aina" engraved on it. The old road (now paved bike path) leads to the north. The second is from the trail that leads to Donkey Beach. Look for the parking lot near the 11 mile mark on the Kuhio Highway north of Kapaa. Although we've never tried it, the third is from Anahola (you're on your own if you come that way). Please do not attempt to drive to this cache in any motorized vehicle, Kauai is best enjoyed by walking or riding a bicycle.

Please respect the beach. Cache in, Trash out. Aloha and Mahalo.
