Geocache Description:

A rock box in the 'winterover' area of McMurdo.

(Updated 1 FEB 2010)
I placed this cache in McMurdo, Antarctica while waiting to return to the USA after a three month scientific project in West Antarctica in 2002-2003. You can read about that project, and find out a bit more about this cache, and the other one I left 1350 kilometers out in the middle of nowhere, at www.greschke.com/passcal/antarctica/index.htm.

There is a spot in McMurdo where projects that span more than one season can leave equipment that they will need in the future. This is the 'winterover' area. You will need to know where that is located.

Rock boxes are used to store a lot of different things. You will need to know what one of those are.

Once you know the above two things the rest will be pretty easy. Just look for a rock box in the winter-over box area that has

IO-205, G-081, T-299
Greschke

written on the side of it. The cache, a small dark green, metal box, will be inside. Take a Phillips screwdriver with you as the lid of the rock box is held on by two screws. Also bring/leave a pencil for the log. I couldn't find a mecanical pencil to leave. I guess the whole rock box could be used as a cache. Just remember that the rock box will probably get ice/snow/water inside of it, so place any items that will be ruined by that in a zip-lock bag.

There is a permanent marker in the cache to use to refresh the writing on the outside of the rock box as it fades. There are also some spare screws for the lid of the rock box if you should happen to drop one into the snow (though there isn't any snow in the area as I write this).

Good luck!
